James Metz
Developer · Builder · Curious human

I build software with purpose.

I’m James Metz, a software developer in Cincinnati who turns complicated systems into clear, dependable tools people actually use.

What drives me

I like the messy middle: data arriving from someone else’s system, a format that’s half documented, and people who still need an answer by Monday. I came to software from physics and AV work, so I’m used to tracing a signal until the problem makes sense. Then I make the fix boring and reliable.

What I’ve built

At On-Shelf Marketing Group, a CPG broker, I build the software the business runs on: a CRM, an expense app, a vendor portal fed by retail EDI data, BigQuery pipelines, and the dashboards on top of them. Outside work I freelance and build experiments like this site in Go.

Why I stand out

On a small team I’ve owned projects end to end, from sitting with sales and operations to learn the problem, to shipping, to supporting it in production. I’ve also hired and onboarded a junior developer. I care equally about the code, the person using it, and what happens after launch.
